Vilnius was celebrating City Days during my visit, which included a great street fair. I visited an open-air market with excellent meats, cheeses, and breads. In addition to seeing the Lithuanian National Museum, Defense Ministry, the Sarunas Marciulionis basketball academy, and the houses of worship in Old Town, I also took a side trip to the island castle town of Trakai, Lithuania's former capital.

I also attended Mass at the Vilnius Cathedral, which Pope John Paul II had visited in September 1993. Lithuania is predominantly Catholic.
